#PhuckYoApologies: We’re officially UnApologetic (777 Tour)

Rihanna’s album was officially released yesterday, and of COURSE I purchased it like every other Rihanna album

I must admit, I had way higher expectations for this album. It fell really flat for me. Almost as if she rushed to put an album out just for the sake of doing so. I’m so accustomed to gritty, uncut, REAL albums from Rihanna. Meaning, you can normally feel her soul through her music. I didn’t get that with this album. Some may argue that she is growing as an artist and expanding her craft, but this album was a bit all over the place to me. There were beats with ADHD, moods were all over the place, it was pretty messy: NO COHESION. Not to mention, I found myself getting increasingly irritated when I was listening to the album in my car and discovered that I was already halfway through the album and still didn’t have a favorite song.

Nonetheless, I still like Rihanna and enjoy her music. Since i’m not too excited about the album anymore, i’ve decided to showcase how awesome she is looking on this 777 Tour (Photos courtesy of Just Jared!)

Well, while i’m not admiring Rihanna artistically, I am LOVING her stylistically!

That’s all for now. Feel free to express your view on the album

College is almost over: What are you going to do? Tips on how to snag an internship

So, now that I have shared with you my views on two things going on in society, I decided to get BACK TO FASHION!

Now, as  most of you know and for those who don’t, I am a beloved PR major at Morgan State University. With graduation right around the corner (yay, class of 2013), I decided to share with all of my PR Practitioners to be, a few tips to snag you a great internship!

Tip #1: Alter your resume to fit that job posting. Make sure that you align your qualities with the qualities that the ad is seeking. I.e. if the ad seeks an intern with social media coordination skills and you feel confident in that skill set, then make sure you put social media coordination in your skills section.

Tip #2: Personalize your cover letter. Your cover letter is your chance to show that job who you are, so let your personality shine through. The occasional witty line never hurt anyone. Also, at the end of your cover letter, be sure to suggest an interview. i.e. I would love to come in and discuss with you the many things that I can offer your organization; something along those lines. It suggests some kind of call to action for them.

Tip #3: Have questions ready. Employers love to see that you have done your research and that you are invested in acquiring that position, son have 3-5 questions tailored to that particular employer ready to go. They ALWAYS will ask if you have any questions.

Tip #4: Always have your portfolio ready for the interview process. Make sure that it contains at least 3-5 really great samples of your writing and also bring along an exceptional piece of writing or a really great project that you can leave behind with an employer. Don’t forget your business cards!

Tip #5: Be persistent! If you are attempting to obtain a position in the field of PR or Fashion (in my case, BOTH) BE PERSISTENT! These organizations are used to receiving hundreds of applications. Make sure that your name is the name that they see the most.

Tip #6: No job ad? Don’t let that deter you. Sending out unsolicited cover letters are not uncommon. Just make sure you accurately depict your skill set and inform them of all of the qualities that you have to offer.

I hope that these tips help you, and if you need any assistance, feel free to contact me using the contact form at the top of the page.

That’s all for now, i’ll keep you posted with my luck!

Who would Americans like to see play Jesus in the next movie?

As I was driving to school this morning, I was listening to The Kane Show on 99.5 like I do every morning. Something incredibly interesting caught my attention on this segment though. The Kane Show team began discussing a 60 Minutes poll asking “Who Would You Cast to Play Jesus?” taken by Vanity Fair, and it reveled something SHOCKING!

So, the poll is set up a little something like this, and here are your options:

Who would you cast to play Jesus?

  • Denzel Washington
  • Daniel Day-Lewis
  • Al Pacino
  • Ryan Gosling
  • Woody Allen
  • Philip Seymour Hoffman
  • None of them (vol.)

The Results are below on this chart:

The Winner is….DENZEL WASHINGTON! Who, if you notice, was the ONLY black man that was an option! Go Denzel!

“Twenty-one percent of Americans would cast Denzel Washington to play Jesus in the new film. Fourteen percent chose the great Daniel Day-Lewis and 13 percent chose his fellow Oscar winner Al Pacino. Eleven percent picked Ryan Gosling and 10 percent went with an unlikely choice Woody Allen. Only three percent went with Philip Seymour Hoffman and 15 percent said “none of the above.” They were probably satisfied with Jim Caviezel’s recent portrayal in the “Passion of the Christ” which grossed over $600 million worldwide.”

The Kane show team received a ton of texts with who the listeners would like to see. A few of the top picks were:

  • Morgan Freeman
  • Oprah
  • Will Smith

Who, are all coincidentally Black too!

Why am I so shocked you ask? Well, if you refer to my previous post from only TWO DAYS AGO, I was convinced that we were making backward strides as a society. I guess there with always be that balance of good and bad.

Zoe Saldana to Play Nina Simone: For or Against?

When it was announced in August that Zoe Saldana, one of my ALL TIME favorite actresses, was going to play the legendary Jazz Singer, Nina Simone, nothing short of chaos and controversy ensued. Many believe that Hollywood is taking a “white-wash” approach by choosing a fair-skinned African American actress to play the part. I am on the fence with this one. I ADORE Zoe Saldana and I feel that she is EXTREMELY talented and there is no doubt in my mind that she won’t do absolutely amazing, HOWEVER, do I feel that there are other potential singers that could play the part? Absolutely!

First off, Zoe Saldana is NOT a singer. She can sing, i’ll give her that and I think that her voice is beautiful, but that still doesn’t make her a singer.

Jennifer Hudson, Algebra, Jill Scott (although she is a bit lighter) I mean, the list goes on of beautiful, darker-skinned, African American SINGERS that I feel would mesh a bit better in the part and could depict a more realistic version of the late Nina Simone.

They are DARKENING ZOE’s COMPLEXION, I feel that, if they have to change the way that Zoe looks to fit the part, then perhaps it should go without saying that she may not be the best fit. Here are a few first-look photos of Zoe are Nina Simone, although she is absolutely stunning, i’m not sure how comfortable I am with this. These photos are from indie wire: Shadow and Act:

The next few photos are Zoe Saldana as Nina Simone:

I visited BlackFilm.Com and took a peek at their post entitled :

“It’s Official! Zoe Saldana will play Nina Simone, not Mary J. Blige”

I thought it was interesting how they paired up Zoe and Nina and Mary J. and Nina. Who do YOU think was the better fit?

This?

Or this?

I found this photo as well, and though it is not an EXACT match, it is freakishly close…. It’s safe to say, I was PRO Marie J!

After doing a bit more research, I discovered that Marie J had the part, but dropped out (whyyyyyyy MARIE?! You haven’t done ish in years, lord knows you need the money!). An article from TheBoomBox.Com revealed:

“Succinctly entitled NinaMary J. Blige was previously set to play Simone

for the project but dropped out due to funding, the Hollywood Reporter reveals.

The script is written by Cynthia Mort, who is also directing the film.

Actor David Oyelowo will play the part of her manager, Clifton Henderson.

The film will reportedly focus on the relationship between Simone and

Henderson, which seems strange to some who point to her Juilliard-training

as a pianist and Atlantic City nightclub days leading into her blossoming

career as more compelling topics for the silver screen.

Funding issues with the film are clearly resolved and production on the

movie will move forward in Los Angeles Oct. 16.”

Even though Mary J. left, I still feel that there were far better candidates to take her place. I HEART ZOE TO PIECES, but just because you can act, doesn’t mean every role is right for you.

So, i’ll leave you loves with your thoughts, be sure to let me know what you all think.

Shame[less] on Me!: Live for Louboutin

Just like most of my readers, I am a college student and I since I don’t come from an ostentatiously wealthy family, i’m deduced to buying what I want the old fashion way: Hard work and saving.

I have had my eye on quite a few pair of Christian Louboutin shoes for a while now: Daffodile, Lady Daf, Highness and Shameless. After much deliberation, I have finally decided to save up for a pair, more specifically: SHAMELESS $1,075

So, exactly how does a college student save up for a pair of $1,000 shoes? Well…

  • I have decided to put aside $200 for the next 5 months so that, by the time I graduate, I can treat myself to something that I worked hard for.
  • I have decided not to splurge on ANYTHING in the meantime.
  • I will give the money to my mother every month so that I won’t be tempted to spend it.

Viola! I should have my babies in NO time. I’m never really good with things like this, but I think that if I stay determined, that I can make it happen.

Wish me luck!
